Out of all of the mixed media painting techniques and supplies I’ve ever tried, the one thing I always come back to is making sure I’m having fun with whatever I’m painting, so in this project, we’re going to loosen up and experiment with lots of art supplies. You’ll learn, step by step, how to add a whimsical character to your painting, using simple shapes. We’ll also focus on taking a sketch and using it to create a mixed media painting, then adding layers to make it all fit together. This project is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to let go and have more fun with their artwork, especially if you feel like you don’t have a lot of time. ~ Juliette
Juliette is a painter, storyteller and adventurer based in Wisconsin. As often as possible, she paints barefoot, preferably outside on her studio balcony or with the giant french doors open to nature, surrounded by flower gardens and the tallest trees – her main sources of inspiration.
She's also an avid gardener and enthusiastic cook and would be delighted to have you over for dinner! When she's not painting, writing and travelling to create in gardens around the world, she lives with her bluegrass singing husband on 10 acres of magical pine woods in the countryside.
Juliette's art is a form of visual storytelling. Working primarily in mixed media with oils, acrylics, inks, pastel, pencil, pen and non-traditional materials like spray paint and origami paper, her paintings are a way to resolve and clarify the emotions she feels and sees every day and translate them into the colors, expressions and gestures you see in her backgrounds and characters.
Juliette chooses to allow the marks and patterns to overlap so the layers underneath show through as a way to mirror the human condition. Every painting ultimately then becomes a deeper understanding of the world and a hope to reveal a universal truth she can never quite express well enough with words but feel deep in her heart.
In 2011, Juliette founded The School of Happy Painting, a suite of online business and painting classes that encourage thousands around the world to get creative and live their dreams.
Her work has been published in Oprah.com, Glamour Magazine UK, and Stampington Publications, just to name a few. Exhibitions include solo shows at The Madison Arts Commission and Absolutely Art in Madison, and a group exhibition at The Overture Art Center in Madison and The Katherine E. Nash Gallery in Minneapolis.my passion with others.
Painting and storytelling have always been her passion and she is so very honored to be able to share her art with you!
A follower and fan of Juliette's beautiful work for years. Yet another! one of the loveliest creatives and teachers I have met! it's an honor to have her join us in The Thursday Club ~ Marisa
"Juliette's classes are soul-filling. I WISH I could express how she has changed my vision and freed my mind. "
"Juliette does a great job of breaking down the elements so anyone can follow and create art they can be proud of. If you are a perfectionist like me and felt stuck when creating then you will definitely enjoy teaching. Once I saw the creative process broken down and how it morphs or changes I felt much more at ease. Paint is forgiving...and once I realized that, my artistic door was wide open!"
Limited space available so be sure to reserve your spot.
We can't wait for Juliette's class!
"Thanks for doing this! These meet-ups have been super great for helping me set and protect my creative time. So thanks for your lovely, encouraging emails and lessons. :)"
